WHERE WE WORK

We are currently working in Italy, Afghanistan and India, with a view to expanding our reach in future years.

In our first year of operation we chose these countries for the following reasons:

Italy

In Italy 5 millions people – 10% of the population – is of foreign origins, of which 1 million are children (ISTAT). Yet, books promoting respect, integration and multicultural dialogue and understanding are scant, expensive and not readily available.

Afghanistan

After 30 years of conflict, Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. A major cause for poverty is low literacy levels, which is currently around 25% (Human Development Index data). According to UNESCO Afghanistan is one of the countries most in need of literacy programs and books.

India

Despite being an emerging economy, India is home to the largest illiterate population in the world (over 400 million of a total of 800 million according to UNESCO), with a widening gap in male and female literacy rates.
